In 1985 Chuck transferred to “The Heart
of Screenland” Culver City, Ca. where he joined the Culver City Police
Department, continuing to develop his computer skills. He attended the
California Highway Patrol Motorcycle Academy in 1987 where he earned the
nickname “Hollywood Harold” for writing movie scripts for low budget
horror films. In 1989 Chuck transferred to a state police unit, The University of California Los Angeles Police Department, where he worked as a police officer for the next 6 years in a high profile campus environment. He continued his motor cop duties and worked a variety of assignments involving student protests and the protection of VIP’s and government officials visiting the campus. Chuck was also the organizer, founder and President of the first officially recognized police collective bargaining unit in the history of the UC system. To this day, the FUPOA - Federated University Police Officer’s Association represents over 400 officers from nine UC campuses statewide. In 1996 Chuck retired from police work and went to work for Fox Digital a division of 20th Century Fox Studios where he became Director of Building Services and Security for the Fox Broadcasting Company, worldwide headquarters for Fox Sports and News Corp. By 2000 Chuck had further refined his report writing and computer skills, and initiated Fox's first computer forensic cases. He was soon asked to form Fox's first corporate investigation unit. As the Director of Corporate Investigations he filed two cases of first impression before federal district courts involving criminal copyright violations and a DNS (Denial of Service Attack) that shut down the nationwide Fox email system. The flings resulted in successful prosecutions and convictions. He also wrote Fox's first comprehensive analysis of production processes and how they related to the loss of intellectual property. In 2002 Chuck was offered a job with The Walt Disney Company as the Senior Manager of Security Operations where he was responsible for approximately 200 employees, 3 studios, 100 buildings and 9 million square feet of property. Beginning with the film “Finding Nemo” Chuck designed a web application and wrote security best practices to protect films from piracy at all Disney / Miramax pre-theatrical screenings worldwide. The anti-piracy program protected over 10,000 screenings against cam-cording and piracy and is still the standard used today. In 2005 Chuck submitted two articles that were accepted upon first submission for publication in the top two security magazines; "How to Catch a Terrorist without Hurting Anyone's Feelings" (published in March 2006 - CSOonline.com) and "The Detective and the Database" (published in March 2006 - ASIS Security Management Magazine) were well received by the security industry and law enforcement community. After "How to Catch a Terrorist..." was featured and co-published on such sites as the Texas A&M University Integrative Center for Homeland Security, Chuck received several contacts from people around the country commenting on the article. As he spoke with people he began to identify a gap in the security industry. Major corporations and the government could afford competent, high paid security experts, but what about the average person or business. Who was looking after them? Having the unique combination of backgrounds in law enforcement, computers, the internet, private investigations, intellectual property protection and the corporate security world, Chuck envisioned the need for a competent group of security and operations consultants that were able to deliver high level consulting services across multiple platforms at a reasonable cost. Combining all his skills and disciplines Chuck decided to develop such a company. He called it Guard Smart®. In 2006 Chuck was hired part time by Nagy Protection Services, Inc. a very small regional guard company located in Van Nuys, California. He was first tasked with rewriting their policies and procedures and within one year Chuck was appointed as the Chief Operations Officer. In his leadership position, Chuck was responsible for approximately 500 employees, as well as Field Operations, Human Resources, Scheduling, Training, Business Development, Investigations, P&L, and Website Development. By merging his technology background with sound security management techniques, Chuck was able to oversee and deliver a 100% growth rate in one year, making the company profitable enough to be sold to a major international security company Andrews International. In late 2007 Chuck teamed up with his former 20th Century Fox colleague Paul Bristow and the two turned full time to transforming the Guard Smart® brand and reputation into what they believed was among the best expertise in the security and safety fields. By the summer of 2008, Guard Smart® caught the attention of the oldest family owned and operated security company in the United States, the 132 year old McRoberts Protective Agency, Inc., founded in 1876. Discovering that the two companies shared the same commitment to quality service and the respectful treatment of their employees, the two companies decided to merge their talents and Chuck and Paul were made Vice Presidents of McRoberts' California Branch where they are responsible for business development and operations. Over the years working for various entities, Chuck's clients have included: Guess? Inc, The Frontier Hotel - Las Vegas, Warner Bros., Sony Pictures, Pitney Bowes, The Saban Family, Loyola Marymount University, Hidden Hills, MGA Entertainment, Jimmy Kimmell Live, North Beverly Park, Hollywood Center Studios, Campbell Hall Private School, GDMX, Warner Bros., St. Vincent's Medical Center, Okami Foods, Idealab, Notre Dame High School, Farmer John's, America Musical & Dramatic Academy, Marymount High School, Escrow Agents Fidelity Corporation, Ridgeview Country Estates, Calabasas Park Estates, numerous law firms, celebrities and executives.
